Real Madrid signed Martin Odegaard only as a PR exercise according to Carlo Ancelotti

Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Real Madrid only signed Martin Odegaard as a PR exercise.

In his recent book, the Italian manager has stated that he did not want to sign the Norwegian player and that it is only the Real Madrid president that wanted to sign him.

Carlo Ancelotti said that there is no way he could have prevented the president from signing him. He stated that it is not a player he wanted in the team but the president Florentino Perez already made his choice. He wanted to use the transfer as a way to promote the Real Madrid brand in Norway.

Martin Odegaard joined Real Madrid in 2015 from Drammen when he was only 16-years old. So far he has managed only one appearance for the Real Madrid senior time. He has spent most of his time playing with the reserve team. In his book, Carlo Ancelotti said that he does not know whether the player has the potential to become a good player but he did not want him in the team at that time.

He said that Florentino Perez wanted to sign him and imposed that he play at least 3 games with the senior side. He wanted to use this as a PR exercise.

Martin Odegaard has been selected 9 times with his national team and has been a target of Jurgen Klopp when the latter was managing Borussia Dortmund. There are reports that he might be going on loan next season, and it might be possible that Jurgen Klopp might make a move for him to bring to Liverpool.

Real Madrid at the moment are busy negotiating the signing of Alvaro Morata and there is news that the Spanish player might return to Madrid in the summer.
