AC IN FOR KAKA

AC Milan were heavily linked with a move for the Real Madrid midfielder Kaka, who was one of the best players for the club during this six years at the San Siro. The player moved to the Spanish club in a £ 60 million deal back in 2009, but he has struggled to replicate his form due to a number of problems.

He has been widely linked with a move away from Real Madrid over the last few transfer windows. He came extremely close to leaving for his former club AC Milan after reportedly agreeing a contract. However, the club could not sign the player due to the transfer fee demanded by Real Madrid.

The AC Milan vice president Adriano Gallaini revealed that the Spanish club demanded around £ 16 million for the player. This coupled with the wage demands and the age of the player meant that Milan were no longer in a financial position to complete the deal. The 30-year-old Brazilian international has suffered several knee injuries over the years. During this time at AC Milan, he managed to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award in 2007. Milan recently signed the Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli in a £ 16 million deal, and they were hoping to improve their strikeforce with the signing of Kaká as well.

"The story about Kaka is a closed chapter for me. Real Madrid wanted €18 million [£15.5m] - a figure that given his age and salary demands made a deal frankly unthinkable," said the Milan vice president. Balotelli made an instant impact for AC Milan after he scored two goals in his debut match to help the club get a 2-1 Udinese during the weekend. The 30-year-old Kaka has made just seven appearances for Real Madrid in the first half of the season, and he is yet to open his account.
