ALONSO SIGNS
Xabi Alonso was rumored to be a high profile target of many top European clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United. Jose Mourinho has already worked with the Spanish midfielder and it was believed that the Portuguese was interested in working once more with Alonso.
Manchester United on the other hand have been going through an underperforming campaign and one of the areas that needs most improvements is in the midfield which is why Alonso would have been a great option for Moyes to try and sign.
Despite all of the reports that claimed the interest of clubs wanting to sign Alonso from Real Madrid, it appears as if everything was nothing more than just rumors as the former Liverpool player extended his stay with Real Madrid and denied everything linking him with offers from other clubs.
"There were no offers, I decided to stay and that's it. I have a good relationship with Mourinho but he never said anything about going to Chelsea." Alonso said.
After confirming his contract extension with the Spanish titans, he stated his satisfaction in staying where he is right now and that there was simply no need to look for alternatives
"Real Madrid is the best place I could be. I feel at home here. There was no reason to look for alternatives. There have not been any offers because I decided I wanted to be here“I won the Champions League with Liverpool but I want to win it with Real Madrid," he declared.
The defensive midfielder penned a new contract that will see him staying at Real Madrid until 2016.
Alonso recently received praise from the former Real Madrid player Jose Amavisca as he stated that the midfielder is just as important to the club as C.Ronaldo.
"Cristiano is a finisher, but Alonso is the one who pulls the strings in midfield, the one who takes the team by the scruff of the neck and dictates the play. His renewal is great, great news for the club. Xabi's importance is comparable to that of Ronaldo," Amavisca stated.
