MBAPPE DOUBTFUL FOR MADRID CLASH

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star Kylian Mbappe is a big doubt ahead of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg clash with Spanish team Real Madrid after he picked up a knock in training. PSG gave an update on the injury sufferedby Real Madrid transfer target Mbappe as it was revealed that the Frenchman suffered a knock to his right foot during training on Monday and has undergone treatment. The statement from the French Ligue 1 leaders further said that another injury update on Mbappe would be delivered on Tuesday.

The status of Mbappe for the Real Madrid game at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu on Wednesday night could go a long way to determine who will secure passage to the Champions League quarterfinals. It is certain that only one of Real Madrid and PSG will qualify for the quarterfinals after they were drawn together at the end of the round of 16 draw in December.

Mbappe was a thorn in the flesh of the Real Madrid defenders when the two teams met in the first leg and he could be a big miss for PSG if he does not recover to feature in the second leg. Mbappe was the difference between the teams as he scored the only goal of the game in stoppage time to give PSG a 1-0 lead at the end of the first leg. The lead could have been more emphatic if not for the penalty miss from Lionel Messi which was saved by Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the Real Madrid goal. Courtois also made some crucial saves to deny the PSG attackers.
The aforementioned injury update from PSG also ruled out the duo of Ander Herrera and Sergio Ramos from the Real Madrid game. Herrera is still receiving treatment on conjunctivitis and he’s expected to return to training at the end of the week. Ramos will not face his former team as he continues to step up his recovery.
