Toni Kroos confident of turning around Real Madrid form
Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has said that the team remain confident of overturning their recent winless run across all competitions. The European champions have not enjoyed a fluent start to the 2018/19 campaign and they are currently on a run of four matches without victory while failing to score in any of those matches.
As a result, there have been plenty of question marks regarding the future of manager Julen Lopetegui at the helm but Kroos believes the club can overcome the recent lean patch, he told reporters: “It's a challenge to turn things around. We have shown at Real that we can do it. There have always been phases like that. I am not worried.”
Meanwhile, the midfielder was also supportive of national team coach Joachim Low, who has been urged by some sections to quit the managerial role with Germany after a wretched World Cup in Russia, he added: “There will always be different opinions. Some might argue you should retire after a big success and others that the best time is after a big defeat. New stimuli can come from the same coach if he questions himself. Low did that. I am convinced that we can turn the corner.”
With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, “ Gareth Bale was expected to take up the scoring mantle but things have not quite gone as planned“ with the Welshman struggling with fitness concerns every now and then. Moreover, the club decided against pursuing a “marquee replacement for Ronaldo “during the summer and they may seek to do at the turn of the year, should they witness their campaign faltering.
Real Madrid are currently placed fourth on the La Liga table with a two-point deficit to league leaders Sevilla. In the Champions League, they are occupying the second spot in Group G after surprise defeat to CSKA Moscow on the road.
