Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos won't return to Sevilla this summer according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano despite the strong links of a possible free transfer deal with his hometown club.

Spanish international Ramos came through the Sevilla ranks before making his first team debut for the multiple Europa League winners. Ramos left Sevilla to join Real Madrid in a big money transfer in 2006 and he has been able to attain legendary status in Madrid.

Real Madrid announced on Wednesday that Ramos will leave the club after spending the majority of the last two decades with the 13-time European champions. Sevilla fans might have dreamt of a romantic reunion with Ramos but that won't be happening. It was revealed that the club is not interested in signing Ramos and that Sevilla has not been on the agenda for the centre back since making the decision to leave Real Madrid after 15 years at the club.

New Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti tried to convince Ramos to stay at the club beyond this summer but the player already had his sights set on a new challenge. The defender is already in talks with an unnamed club over a free transfer move.

Madrid skipper Ramos will hold a press conference on Thursday to bid his farewell to the club he has represented in the last 15 years since his transfer from Sevilla.

Ramos is undoubtedly a Real Madrid legend especially after his contributions to the club's amazing feat of winning the Champions League title in four of the five seasons between 2014 and 2018. The La Decima dream was fading away in the 2014 Champions League final when Ramos popped up with the equaliser against city rivals Atletico Madrid with virtually the last kick of regulation time. His goal helped Madrid to secure a 1-1 draw with Atletico and extra time. Madrid went on to score three goals in extra time to beat Atletico 4-1 and win a 10th European title under Ancelotti. Arch rivals Barcelona won the competition the next season before Ramos and his Real Madrid teammates won the competition for three straight seasons thus becoming the first team to win and retain the Champions League.
