Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly turned down an £ 18 million offer to become the manager of Manchester United. This would have made him the highest-paid manager in the world. Ancelotti has always been one of the top names to be linked with every major club whenever there has been a vacancy. Despite being just a decade into his managerial career, he has already overseen spells with AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris St Germain and Real Madrid. Due to his pedigree and experience in the Premier League, Ancelotti was reportedly a target for United.

The club recently sacked David Moyes and are now looking to appoint Louis van Gaal in place of him. However, it is understood that Ancelotti was the first target according to reports in Spain. The £ 18 million contract would have overtaken the £ 10 million he is currently running at Madrid. Ancelotti, though, has the opportunity to create history with Madrid this season. Not only can he lead the club to their 10th European trophy, but he will also join the illustrious list of managers who have won the Champions League with two different teams.

Real Madrid will be playing against their city rivals Atletico Madrid in the final of the competition on May 24. "I'm happy here at Real Madrid. I am lucky to be working at the best club in the world and my place is here [in Spain]. I respect Man United a lot. I was disappointed for David Moyes, but my place at the moment is here," said Ancelotti a few weeks ago regarding the interest from United. His concentration is likely to be fully on the Champions League final after losing out in the league title following a 1-1 draw with Valladolid during the weekend. This result was preceded by the 5-0 triumph against Bayern Munich.
