Real Madrid set £174.5m asking price on Cristiano Ronaldo

Spanish giants Real Madrid have placed a £174.5m price tag on the head of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is eyeing a shock exit from the Bernabeu.

The Portugal international is reportedly distraught over tax fraud allegations in Spain, and he has made an irreversible decision to leave the European champions.

Ronaldo, 32, has won three Champions League titles during a highly-successful spell at Los Blancos, and he is now weighing up a potential move elsewhere. French champions Paris Saint-Germain failed with an approach for the Euro 2016 winner, and they are said to be one among the suitors alongside Manchester United and several Chinese Super League clubs.

A return to Old Trafford is likely to be Ronaldo’s preferred destination, if he leaves the Bernabeu, and this could see him being reunited with both United and Jose Mourinho, with whom he had a hot and cold relationship in Madrid. Zinedine Zidane’s side have come in the defence of their star player following the tax fraud allegations, but they are nevertheless willing to sanction his sale, should a club be willing to match their hefty £174.5m valuation.

The transfer values have reached great heights over the past year or so with United’s Paul Pogba costing £89m from Italian champions Juventus, and this makes the price of Ronaldo reasonable considering his constant goalscoring form regardless of his trailing age.

Mourinho is on the search for a new forward to lead the line, and the presence of Ronaldo would be a welcome prospect for the manager, who is being backed with a £250m to turn his squad into genuine contenders for the Premier League and Europe next season. Since his arrival from Old Trafford in 2009, Ronaldo has bagged 394 goals in 406 outings for the La Liga holders, thereby becoming the club’s all-time goalscorer.
