Willian admits potential for disappointment with Eden Hazard’s switch to Madrid
Chelsea winger Willian has acknowledged that he would be very sad, should Eden Hazard make the move to Real Madrid this summer. The Belgium international has flirted with the prospect of joining the outgoing European champions in the past year or so and he could be headed to the Bernabeu this summer amid the ongoing contract standoff with the Blues.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Willian said that he has no idea with regards to the future of Hazard, who has 13 months remaining on his current deal. However, he added that he would be very sad, if the playmaker ultimately parts ways with the club, he said: “We don’t know what is going to happen. But what I can say is, if he goes I’m going to be very sad.”
Hazard had been keen on pursuing a fresh challenge away from the west London giants last summer but he was convinced to stay put shortly after the arrival of Maurizio Sarri. But the same case appears unlikely to happen this summer and that appears to have influenced the club’s signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund.
Nonetheless, the departure of the Belgian would leave a potential void in the club’s ranks and with a transfer ban present at the moment, the club have no option but to stick with the current crop of players. Chelsea have already been rejected in their approach to overcome the two-window transfer ban by FIFA and they are now considering the prospect of taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The west London club have taken time with the decision to appeal to the sporting body and reports indicate that they need to present the case and the plea to freeze the embargo separately. They have another week’s time to do the same or else, they may have to settle for the ban.
